morning. >> yes, we have increasing clouds today. we're showing you the cloud cover. we do have some clouds streaming through the area. i think we'll wake one some sunshine but during the day, the frontal systems will sag south and that will increase the cloud around here. most of the day should be dry. man a late, late shower. sarah mentioned the temperature, 55 at reagan national is the humidity. winds are out of the south at nine miles per hour. what's next? clouds, mild conditions today and again, we are locking at highs by late this afternoon in the upper 60s to about 70 so it should be a mild one out there and again, most of the day should be dry. more details on the forecast. got a chilly five-day forecast. i'll show it to you in a minute. some of the top stories we are following, two d.c. men were arrested in florida in connection with a deadly shooting on a metrobus. demetrius thompson was gunned down last thursday.

police say they got a tip on the identity of the suspects from the public. once a jury of 12 and five alternates have been seated, opening statements are expected today in the trial of brittany norwood. she is accused of killing her coworker at the lululemon store last march. jed, the judge said prosecutors will not be allowed to use certain graphic photos in their opening statements. herman cain has jumped to the top of the field but a controversial commercial is raising questions about what message he is delivering. tom fitzgerald explains. >> reporter: he is officially the frontrunner but herman cain is now drawing attention for

one of his staffers. >> mark block here. >> reporter: mark block, cain's chief of staff, is burning up the internet after a youtube video ends with him smoking a cigarette. the video, political analysts say, is meant to send a message. >> i am in the going to follow what the government tells me to knowledge. >> reporter: leonard steinhorn is a political science professor at american university. he says the smoking video is cain's way of thumbing his nose at big government. >> he appeals to anti- government conservatives, anti- government republicans and that is what fits with their message. >> reporter: the latest cbs "wall street journal" poll finds cain leading over the rest of the field. trying to save his campaign, rick perry unvialed a new cut, balance and grow plan featuring a variation of cape's flat tax. >> the option of throwing out that three million words of the

mild er than yesterday. baltimore, 55. dulles, 51. winchester, 57. fredericksburg, 54. a little by of cloud cover out there and that is helping to hold the temperatures up. you can see the high, thin cloudiness moving in from the west and north and west. we have a frontal system that will try to move through. this is the beginning of the frontal system. most of the day should be dry except the rain showers move in tonight. we'll have some rain around here for the day on thursday. here is your forecast. nice, temperatures back near 70. mild afternoon but more clouds than yesterday. waldorf will be a high temperature about 70. 69 in manassas and 66-degree in martinsburg. >> now, what i'm not looking forward to is the weekend apparently. can you give us an idea? >> it looks like a chilly rain around here but not too far away, we could be looking at

the potential for a little wintry precip. >> wait. did you say wintry precip? >> we'll have more on that coming up. >> let's check in with julie wright for our traffic. is julie there? no julie. moving on, our big local news. this morning, two d.c. men face extradition from florida after being captured there accused in a deadly shooting on a metrobus. they were picked up by u.s. marshals in the orlando area. they are accused of killing demetrius thompson last thursday. police got a tip after releasing surveillance video to the media and social networks. a jury is expected to be seated and opening statements are expected to begin today in the lululemon murder trial. an employee atthesda store is accused of killing her coworker. fox 5's stacy cohan is live

outside the courthouse with more this morning. >> good morning. we had a major ruling here yesterday about the opening statements. judge robert greenberg limits the use of photos that the prosecution had hoped to use during their opening statements today. the judge calling those photos gruesome. 29-year-old brittany norwood is accused of using as many as eight different objects to beat jayna murray to death. the objects would include a hammer and a clothing rack. prosecutor say the pair had argued inside the lululemon yoga store in bethesda after murray accused norwood of stealing merchandise. murray's college roommate came by the courthouse yesterday. >> i do grieve for jot must my friend's family as well as the other because it was a horrible thin that happened. as much as i'm very sad and angry and emotional about it, i've been praying and been

thinking that something good will happen. >> reporter: norwood originally towed police that the pair were taxed by masked men, beaten and raped. that story fell apart. prosecutors claim norwood flatly made it up. the jump sawed they may use some photos in that are opening statements including a photo that shows jayna murray where she was found and a photo of norwood with injuries. a map accused of posing as a cop and taxing tax -- attacking women in the herndon area is now behind bars. police arrested thomas kim for two attacks back on october 11th but they are not releasing his photo just yet. police say kim displayed a banal to his victims. he is suspected if five other similar cases as well -- in five other similar cases as

well. in central virginia, the hunt continues for a missing 9- year-old autistic boy. robby woods, jr. has been missing since sunday when he wandered away from his family at the north anna battlefield park. hundreds of searchs showed up to search for woods. a d.c. sound sill committee -- council committee is holing a hearing today on ethics -- is holding a hearing today on ethics reform. the bills being considered include measures to tighten campaign finance reporting requirements, banning lobbyists from contributing to elected fills. also term limits for council members and barring council members from holding outside jobs. a court hearing for former mayoral candidate suleiman brown over a traffic stop. prosecutors dropped the charge that he failed to obey police.

brown claims plainclothes officers did not identify themselves so he refused to get out of his car. brown is also part of a congressional investigation. several lawmakers and governor martin o'malley are endorsing a plan would that would raise the state's gas tax by 15 cents. it would he go from 23 1/2 cents to 3 1/2 cents. that is more than double d.c.'s gas tax. the increase would be phased in over three years. but additional fees on public transportation, titling, registration and inspection of cars could all go up by next summer. taking a look at republicans on the campaign trail this morning. rick perry is hoping his new tax reform plan unveiled in south carolina yesterday will revive his lagging poll numbers. his flat 20% income tax would

simplify the tax code. meanwhile, mitt romney raised eyebrows while meeting republican volunteers in high when he refused to back governor john casich's plan to clamp down on unions. today, he comes to virginia. as for president obama, he touched down in san francisco for a series of campaign events. he is there for a fund raiser that could haul in over a million dollars. earlier, he taped an episode of the tonight show with jay leno. a ray of hope in the middle of turkey's natural disaster. a tiny baby pulled from the rubble after two days is doing well apparently. baby azra is only 17 days old and was born premature. rescuers found her clutching her mother who was crushed beside her. about 40 people were rescued yesterday. it has now been three days since the quake hit. more than 450 have died. dramatic testimony in the michael jackson death case from

police fire tear gas at occupy protesters in california. police fired the tear gas and bean bags at protesters. police took down a camp in front of city hall earlier yesterday but protesters marched back forcing police to fire stun grenades at them. in atlanta, police arrested more than other occupy protestors. the mayor revoked their permit to demonstrate in a downtown park after they have been camping there for two weeks

now. police warned them a couple of times before marching in. a mystery surrounding the death of a local woman in new york. the virginia woman has been found dead in a creek in upstate new york. 49-year-old linda kkeplick of falls church was in the area to visit relatives. police are waiting on autopsy results before giving a cause of death. a national sororitiy is warning alumnae to remove any indication that they were a member of the sororitiy. so far, four women have been taxed. dr. conrad murray's defense team could rest their case by the end of the week.

yesterday, jurors heard testimony from sharon lee, a holistic nurse. she says jackson wanted propofol. lee says she told jackson she did not want to use the drug because it is supposed to be used in surgery and in emergency situations. but lee claims jackson disagreed. >> he responded again i will be okay. i only need someone to monitor me with the equipment while i sleep. >> yeah, that's exactly when he said. >> the defense is trying to shift the blame from conrad murray to michael jackson himself. they are expected to call 15 witnesses total. so the good news for people still trying to pay off their student loans. coming up next, some relief from the federal government. we'll explain that coming up. more headaches for metro riders

warmer than yesterday. again, we should be about 07 today, a nice, mild day, our wind are out of the south and with a little bit of cloud cover out there at the moment. check it out, washington right now is 55 degrees. 54 in gaithersburg. len arttown is 55. off to the north and wets we go and let's see, winchester, 57 and martinsburg, 50. temperatures off to a mild start. should be a beautiful afternoon. won't get as much sunshine and here is why. clouds moving in from the north and streaming in from the west and that is all due to the frontal system which will be generally sagging to the south and east over the next 24 hours. so later this afternoon, can't guarantee you won't see a sprinkle or light shower but really the main event will hold off until later tonight and during the day tomorrow as that frontal system moves on through. and then we should be set up for a nice friday before we have to watch the potential for, i'll show you on the five- day forecast, another coastal storm that will develop friday night and saturday. that is on some of of the

computers although it is yet to be seen if that will actually develop or not. increasing clouds. still mild out there. 70 your daytime high. generally a nice day. could be some mid- to late afternoon showers for a few of us but most of the day should be dry. cloudy skies, showers develop overnight. 55. winds out of the south and west at five to 10. showers in the forecast most of the day tomorrow, 62. we will clear out late thursday night and early friday. there is that coastal storm we have to watch. temperatures will be on the chilly side with highs on saturday only in the upper 40s for about 50. we get towft here with temperatures rebounding into the low to mid-50s by zipped. let's do some on-time traffic. julie wright has the latest j on the roads, you will find lanes are open. that overnight roadwork on the beltway traveling between connecticut avenue and georgia avenue has cleared. no problems to report right now on 395 as you travel northbound coming across the 14th street bridge. it is an easy commute right now working your way across the potomac.

light traffic volume each way down south at the wilson bridge. southbound 270 in good shape as well as you guys head south from father hurley boulevard headed out towards the lane divide. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. a traffic alert now on the worst intersections in montgomery county. the worst on the county's list is old georgetown road at democracy boulevard in north bethesda. the second worst is darnestown road at ripple ford road. report is based on the amount of traffic over the past three years. people use the bethesda metro stop and are fed up with the escalator trouble they have there. they all stopped working last week all at the same time. will thomas explains. >> reporter: they are unpredictable at best. we are talking about these three huge escalators at the bethesda metro stop. they break down all the time just like this one as we speak.

but here is the deal. metro says they will replace all three starting in 2014. but at a tuesday night meeting, minutes of the montgomery county council transportation committee met with members of the public to figure out if there is a solution that could come sooner. the county doesn't directly fund metro so the council doesn't really have much muse toll pressure metro to start the replacements any sooner. here is how the council could provide relief a little sooner. the county would provide funding for a new southern entrance to the bethesda metro station with six high-speed elevators. construction is years away. so there is a push to do that sooner. >> we've already got the money. when the he is clattors are being fixed, people will be having to walk all the time every time there is a breakdown and it is too far to walk so let's get the elevators built first. constructing these high- speed elevators ahead of schedule, we learned at the meeting, could coast an additional $25 million. in these tough economic times,

homes increased in 20 cities that it tracked. relief for people would owe student loans from the white house. a pay as you earn plan capping payments at 15% of a graduate's discretionary income is already in place. now, that cap will be reduced to 10%. that is a significant savings on monthly payments. graduates will also be able to consolidate some loans and the debt will be forgiven after 20 years instead of 25. these changes take effect under executive order next year. student loans are hitting a record high this year as well. higher even than the nation's credit card debt. white house officials say the new plan will come at no cost to taxpayers but not everyone is in favor of. this fox news correspondent jennifer davis has more. >> reporter: long after they leave college, students still struggle to pay for it. student loan debt will hit a record high this year of $1 trillion. given those numbers, lawmaker want to make sure the direct

loan program which issued government-run student loans is being accounted -- accountable to students and taxpayers. >> i am pleased that about 6,000 schools are using the program. >> many schools have voiced concerns about increasing instances of problems and mistakes. earlier this, the direct loan web site crashed and uses are were able to see other students' personal and financial information. >> reporter: president obama supports the program that involves the department of education giving students low- interest loans so they can avoid the lending process through a bank. >> we no longer are subsidizing big banks who are just a pass- through for student loans. that money is directly going to students now. and that is making a huge difference all across the country. >> reporter: but some crit you bes give this program an f, among them gop presidential hopeful ron paul who thinks student loan as a whole should be phased out. >> my argument is that it is
